What exactly does outdoor coaching entail and what do you need to know before choosing a route with a walking coach?

Why walk?

Exercise moves your body, but also your brain. The movement of your arms together with your legs, the cadence of your steps; it provides peace and clarity. It is easier to talk while walking. You don't look at each other either, but you do have the same noses and move in the same direction. You walk on, stand still or let your gaze wander. All these actions: moving, staring in front of you, shifting perspective, going through something or just standing still are automatically facilitated by walking coaching. Do we always go out?

Ja dat is wel de bedoeling. Afhankelijk van het weer beginnen we binnen. Als we de kern duidelijk hebben gaan we daarna op pad, ook als het regent. Een verfrissende bui kan de situatie soms echt flink op laten klaren.

What role does nature play?

Outdoor walking can help us find creative solutions and new ideas. It reduces stress, increases concentration and improves mood. Walking outdoors can help us distance ourselves from problems, gain a new perspective, and become aware of our own bodies and thoughts. Walking coaching takes advantage of these benefits of walking in nature by relaxing the participant and giving the opportunity to discuss problems and goals with a coach.

What does a coach do?

A coach is someone who helps you achieve your goals, overcome challenges and stimulate personal growth. I listen to you, ask questions and provide feedback to help you take responsibility for your own life and make changes. A coach is like a partner in crime, who supports and guides you in discovering your own strength and potential.

What coaching style do you use?

Als coach hanteer ik een praktische en resultaatgerichte coachstijl met aandacht voor de emotionele kant. Mijn doel is om mensen te helpen om concreet en haalbare doelen te bereiken en de noodzakelijke stappen te nemen om deze doelen te realiseren. Ik gebruik een directe en hands-on aanpak, en geef concrete feedback en praktische oplossingen. Mijn stijl is gericht op het activeren van mensen en hen in beweging te brengen in de richting van hun doelen. Ik geloof dat door het nemen van actie en het maken van veranderingen in ons leven, we ons eigen potentieel kunnen ontdekken en groeien.

What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Think of coaching as a personal trainer for your brain. It's about helping you achieve your goals and improving your skills so you can be the best you can be. It focuses on the here and now and reinforcing what already works.

Therapie gaat doorgaans op verschillende manier veel dieper in op in het verleden opgedane trauma’s. Zo kan het een uitkomst van coaching zijn dat een bepaalde type therapie de eerstvolgende stap in jouw persoonlijke ontwikkeling is.

Where do we meet?

We overleggen tijdens ons intakegesprek welke locatie het beste werkt voor onze wandeling. Dit hangt onder andere af van jouw locatie, maar ook het seizoen en de weersvoorspellingen.

What do I bring?

For a walking coaching session it is important to bring a few things. Make sure you have comfortable shoes and clothes on, because we are going for a walk in nature! I'll provide water and a cup of tea or coffee, but bring a bottle of water if you like. You can also bring a notebook to jot down key insights and information that emerge during the session. Don't forget your sunglasses when the weather is nice and a raincoat with a hood is recommended when it rains.

Is what we discuss secret?

Everything we discuss from the intake moment is confidential and may not be shared with others by either of us without permission. If I work on behalf of your employer, then what we discuss will not just be passed on. You then decide for yourself what you do or do not share with your employer. What does a coaching program cost?

The costs are very transparent, but always tailor-made. Because I work a lot with healthcare institutions and healthcare personnel, I think it is important that my services do not represent a towering investment for this group. During the intake interview, we agree on both the number of sessions and the costs. This can be a single session or a trajectory. An individual approach, or with a team.

Is a coach reimbursed?

Coaching is not covered by basic health insurance and is therefore often not (fully) reimbursed. There are still several options to get a partial refund. Discuss the use of coaching with your manager or HR. Certainly in the healthcare sector, there may be various programs that can provide you with support. In certain cases, additional modules of your health insurer apply and there is also a possibility of tax deduction, it is best to get information about this through your health insurer and tax consultant.

How far in advance should I cancel an appointment?

Cancel your appointment at least 48 hours in advance, otherwise I will be forced to charge for the session. This is the minimum time I need to reschedule the freed up time.
